Lumaha'i Beach is known for dramatic waves and beautiful scenery. This photo highlights the area of the beach where the river meets the stream. You will often find local residents swimming there. If in doubt about swimming conditions at any of the Kauai Beaches, ask someone before risking it.
The cove at the south end of the beach is a great summer swimming spot on most days. If you visit in the winter months take care and stay above the basalt ledge that is swept by the very strong surf. It can look safe for a moment and then suddenly be covered by a wall of water.
Bring your beach chairs and relax in the shade of the lava walls, or take a walk down to the far end of the beach. This spectacular Kauai beach is one of the great spots on the North Shore and became better known after the filming of the movie, South Pacific.
